Basic costs and charges for Care

What are the basic costs and what is covered for Foster, Arch, or Earch homes?

Cost for Residential Foster, Arch, or Earch homes range from $5,000-$8,000 per month. This cost includes room, board, and services. Costs also depend on level of care, location and private vs semi private rooms. There may be extra cost for supplies, but we will confirm with each individual home.

 

Are there additional charges for care and what are those?

Possibly for supplies, transportation, case management, medication, and taxes.

What are the different types of care available?

Skilled nursing, private duty home care, assisted living, adult day care, residential care home placement.  

 

What are the other services Caregiver's Heart Hawaii and Home Sweet Home Care Hawaii can assist with?

We can provide recommendations on daycare and transportation services. We can also refer you to Medicaid resources, other elderly care services, and lifecoaching services.

What are the different types of case management agencies available?

What are the residents' rights and where are they posted?

Residents' rights are the rules and policies of the home they are living in. The resident's rights not always posted in the home. Please confirm with the home on their rules and policies.

How are medications obtained? 

Whoever is responsible for appointments medications are usually dropped off by family or ordered by family/caregiver at a specific pharmacy and picked up by caregiver. Some families or caregivers use a medication drop off service. It varies in each home you would have to ask.

What reasons would a resident be discharged or moved to another location? 

If a resident wants to go home, if family chooses for them to go home, move to a home closeby, or if the level of care changes. Caregivers will usually wait to give families the time to find another care home or families may decide to take a resident home until they can find another placement. All parties will ensure the safest situation and the resident will continue to receive care for 24 hours care before a resident is discharged.

 

What is the facility response when a resident is having difficulty adjusting?

All caregivers know that it’s a transition period they will do their best to accommodate and make your loved one fill comfortable. It will take them time to get to know your mom or dad and what they like and dislike and how to work them.

How much time are families given when it is time to move out? 

Caregivers will typically give families 2 weeks or 30 days to move and collect belongings.​​​​

What is the facility response when a resident is having difficulty adjusting?

All caregivers understand that there will be a transition period. During this time, they will do their best to accommodate and make your loved one feel at home and as comfortable as possible. It will take time to get to know your mom or dad and what they like, dislike, and how to work them.

How am I able to find dependable reviews and trustworthy caregivers?

There aren't any websites that provide reliable reviews of care homes. However, you may visit the DOH website to get information on the deficiencies of each homes for dependable reviews. Caregiver's Heart Hawaii's team has extensive knowledge and have strong relationships with many caregivers in Hawaii. We will be able to help by giving you background information on each caregiver and can be the direct connection to the right caregivers.

How do you know if there have been any complaints from residents or families?

If there were any reports of abuse or neglect the care home/foster home would be shut down by the state immediately. You can visit the DOH website to search for any home and see if there are any current home deficiencies or citations.

When was the last state or county inspection conducted? 

All licensed care homes and foster home have yearly inspection and are subject to surprise visits from the Department of Health (DOH). ​The DOH website is available where you can search for any home and it will display the latest deficiencies or citations reported for each home.

All care homes and foster homes have emergency procedures in place. Please confirm what they are with the caregiver.

Where and how can we apply for Medicaid?

What is the best to apply for and difference types of Medicaid? 

Aloha, UHC, Kaiser, HMSA are some Medicaid providers to name a few. Check with each provider to see if they offer a medicaid program and the rates that they offer.

Does Medicaid cover hospice care?

Medicaid usually covers hospice care based on the plan.
